July 2018 | Boca Raton, Florida
Record breaking rain in May, but fewer hurricanes in the forecast this year.
In 2017 Hurricane Irma left widespread water damage in South Florida and RCI Home and Mold Inspections assisted many homeowners and businesses in the aftermath of that storm. As an independent mold inspection company, we evaluated and tested dozens of homes and businesses both immediately after the storm and after the repairs were done. As licensed home inspectors, we found home buyers were particularly keen to have thorough home inspections completed before investing in a new home.
For 2018, NOAA recently revised their forecast from an average to above-average year for named storms to a "below-average" Atlantic hurricane season. While that gets a collective sign of relief after last year, South Florida has already experienced a very wet May, with Miami receiving record breaking rainfall. So even in a 'slow' hurricane year, our communities still see storms with heavy rain, lightening and damaging winds.
Thunderstorm damage, heat, and humidity.
A powerful summer thunderstorm can pack roof-damaging winds any day of the week in Florida. Our mold inspection team wants renters, home owners and business to know the facts about mold, mildew and the implication for health and property safety. Mold and mildew growth takes hold within 24-48 hours in a warm, wet environment. Most of us experienced at least 24 hours without power and AC during this storm, so as we dry out and recover from Irma most homes and businesses are as risk of mold and mildew related issues.
The role of an independent mold inspector
As insurance claims and home repairs get underway, it is critical that homeowners, businesses and renters ensure that the water damage and mold remediation is done properly. RCI Home and Mold Inspection Boca Raton works independently from insurance claims processors and mold remediation companies. After inspection and testing, our mold inspectors produce a report that outlines a specific plan for proper remediation of mold and mildew. This plan follows stringent industry standards for mold remediation and your restoration company or general contractor can use this report as part of the blueprint for making your home or business whole again.
When to request a mold inspection and testing?
In the case of prolonged power outages, humidity can build up in your home or business. Testing for mold can give you peace of mind and alert you to ongoing damage to your structure and health.
Before and after remediation and restoration. Starting with a mold test will help identify the extent of the problem as well as what types of mold are present. It’s important to know if moisture, mildew and mold have moved beyond the visibly impacted areas to places that you cannot easily see, like your AC system, or inside your walls. It is not uncommon for people to discover problems like black mold and mildew months after the original date of loss.
After restoration work in complete, insurance loss adjusters will be keen to settle your claim. Often they have contracted the remediation company for you and are mindful of getting the job done fast and economically. Independent follow up inspection and testing is critical to making sure the job has been done properly. Protect your investment and your health.

Finally…someone who knows their job! Two different mold experts came out and insisted that our roof was leaking... after spending thousands the mold came back within 60 days. RCI came out to our house and determined our roof was water tight and the reason for the mold reoccurrence was my newly remolded bathroom shower pan was leaking.
Truly professional company….showed up on time, explained the mold assessment process, found our problem and delivered a written report in a very timely manner. Would recommend to my family and friends.
Impressed with honesty. We had a minor leak at our refrigerator water supply line and we were concerned about mold. After a very thorough inspection of our entire house while paying particular attention to the kitchen RCI determined we did not have mold problem.
Great job! RCI was a great help from start to finish.
As a property management company we have used RCI for all our mold related projects over the years. Fast, reliable, professional and great service. Happy to recommend to others.
Unscrupulous inspection and remediation companies refer to black mold as "black gold". These companies take advantage of people when they are most vulnerable. Jerry, the mold inspector was professional and calm. He did not use scare tactics or fear to get us to sign with him. He made clear our options and gave us very good information so we could make an unbiased decision.
I would highly recommend RCI.
